The glorious alter-ego of Australian comic Barry Humphries sparkles in two Christmas specials, Dame Edna's Christmas Experience from 1987 and A Night on Mount Edna from 1990. Watching Dame Edna discuss skiing and valium with Gina Lollobridgida or interviewing Mel Gibson in her personal sauna–it's a cornucopia of daffy narcissism and off-the-wall double entendres. Charlton Heston appears as Dame Edna's houseboy, running to and from the kitchen, finally spilling cheese fondue in Julio Iglesias's lap. This is, as ever, the most giddy and surreal talk show of all time. But for sheer comic genius, it's one of the special features that really pays off: One More Audience with Dame Edna Everage is just Edna herself, alone on stage, breezily spinning out crazed and hilarious responses to audience questions. –Bret Fetzer
